CAEI Consortium wins two cleaner production awards for sugar production and renewable energy generation
The CAEI Consortium has won two awards for excellence in cleaner production. One was for the efficient use and management of materials in the sugar production process. The second was for the first renewable energy plant with generation technology using a biomass base that has been developed and operated by San Pedro BioEnergy, a company that is part of the consortium.
The recognitions were awarded by a broad and diverse jury made up of experts from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, ECORED, international cooperation organizations, organized industry players and two universities, all within the framework of the fifth version of the National Award for Cleaner Production.
The San Pedro BioEnergy excellence award was awarded in the Renewable Energy category. In the case of sugar production, recognition was granted in the Materials category.
"This is a valid recognition of the best practices of efficient and sustainable use of the resources carried out by the CAEI Consortium as part of its vision of being a sustainable company," said Alberto Potes, Executive Vice President of the company.
The projects proposed by CAEI were evaluated by technical experts attached to the Ministry of the Environment, who analyzed the documents submitted by the company and visited the company's facilities to learn about the scope of the initiatives presented.
During the award ceremony, the Ministry of the Environment recognized several companies for best practices in the implementation of sustainable production initiatives. The initiative was led by Zoila González de Gutiérrez, vice minister of Environmental Management. Other supporters of the cleaner production awards are the National Competitiveness Council, Ministries of Industry and Commerce and the Economy, National Energy Commission, Climate Change Council, ECORED and the European Union.
