CAC cleanses La Lagunita Canal
The Central Sugar Consortium (CAC) has succeeded in cleansing of the La Lagunita irrigation canal in the Las Salinas municipality, which provides water for hundreds of activities on land cultivated by landowners in the area.
The cleaning work was carried out by the agricultural team of the sugar company, who worked for more than 36 hours with excavating machines, to remove all the sedimentation left by the rains from Hurricane Grace. The CAC has invested more than two hundred thousand pesos in this effort.
The purified channel was handed over to its users on October 20 by the CAC Communications Superintendent, Julio Fernández, together with the provincial governor of Barahona, Mrs. Diones González and the mayor of the Las Salinas municipality, Maira Rubio.
While making the formal handover, Mr. Fernández expressed his delight to know that with this action dozens of landowners will be able to water their crops and bring food to the Dominican table.
For her part, Governor González thanked the company for once again attending to the needs of farmers. Mayor Rubio had a similar message, indicating that had it not been for the CAC, the provincial authorities would have had significant difficulties in rehabilitating the La Lagunita irrigation canal.
With this collaboration, the CAC reaffirms its desire to support works and actions that positively impact the lives of citizens.
